Overlapping circles representing my key strengths and skills: Empathy, Clarity, Creativity, Communication, Systems Thinking, Storytelling, Artifacts, Collaboration, Research

Empathy, clarity, and creativity are the key strengths I bring to every project. Working in close collaboration with clients and end users, I use the process of human-centered design to surface assumptions, define questions, generate insights, synthesize ideas, and prototype, test, and iterate solutions. Some distinctive aspects of my approach:

I listen.

Empathy, Collaboration, Research

Every project begins with empathy—for clients, colleagues, and especially for end users. Through one-on-one interviews, surveys, and secondary research, I develop a broad understanding of the context of users’ lives. I strive to connect authentically with everyone I work with, using skills honed by conducting hundreds of interviews and training in Nonviolent Communication. This helps us get to the heart of the matter, keep the project oriented towards what’s most important, and uncover insights that spark transformative change.

I host great meetings.

Collaboration, Creativity, Communication

All design happens in collaboration, which means the way that we gather can have a huge impact on our results. While facilitating, I hold space for critical conversations, inviting participants to stretch their creative muscles and connect with what’s most important. As a communications specialist I have extensive experience working with cross-functional teams, so I’m expert at translating between departments and helping groups connect the dots between ideas. The result is better meetings that yield practical consensus and motivation around next steps.

I inspire action with meaningful artifacts.

Creativity, Storytelling, Artifacts, Clarity

Great ideas only get you so far. The next step is to explain those ideas to others in a way that resonates. I draw on my experience as a writer, editor, and creative director to bring projects to life, crafting stories, diagrams, journey maps, service blueprints, and presentations that delight and inspire. Whatever their form, my artifacts don’t just tell a story—they empower the client to tell the story and rally support for the project.

I practice equity.

Design is all about imagining a better future. I strive to ensure that my process and products contribute to a more equitable and humane world. All my work is grounded in an awareness of relational and systemic power dynamics. I draw on my training in Facilitation for Racial Equity to help teams identify assumptions, uncover root causes, and ensure that the people who are most impacted by the project are at the center of decision-making. I believe that users are the experts on their own experiences and that by working together in authentic relationship we can co-create transformative change.
